Adding Designs and Products

The essence of the print bar eCommerce websites is the ability to customize garments and other products with printed text and designs and sell them online. Applying a design and/or text to a product is referred to as ‘decorating’ the product.

Products can be sold online through stores undecorated (blank), pre-decorated, or with new decorations created or customized online by the consumer.

  • Blank products are available to all stores to be decorated and if you have a particular garment you would like The Print Bar to print on please email us at sales@theprintbar.com
  • You can choose to have your garments customized by the consumer.
  • Pre-decorated products are setup and managed via the Manage Store part of the website, and are available only to that one store. No one can access your designs. You can choose to allow each pre-decorated products to be further customized by the consumer, or only sold as is. Pre-decorated products are classified by the store in Decorated Product Categories.

About products, product types & categories in fulfillment centers

About products & categories in stores

The Store owner can choose to use some or all blank product types and products which The Print Bar makes available. The blank product categories and sub-categories cannot be changed by the Store owner. The store can create and manage their own set of pre-decorated products though, using any of the blank products available to it. It would typically would create a set of pre-decorated product categories which are different from the blank product categories, and which typically categorize the pre-decorated products by design theme or usage.

Each store owner selects which product types and products they will offer in their store from those available from their fulfillment center

Each store owner sets up their own set of pre-decorated store products and store product categories to better promote their store’s specialty.

Store owners can define decorated product categories which are different from the standard product categories. These may better represent the specific markets that the store targets. They can also designate whether a pre-decorated product can be further customized by the customer or not.

Pre-decorated

Store owners themselves can create pre-decorated products by combining selected decorations with selected products. You can choose to allow predecorated products to be further customized by the consumer or not.

Pre-decorated products are useful in several ways:

• To offer popular combinations of selected logos or other designs on commonly supplied garments for teams, schools, companies, sports clubs, etc.

• As examples to customers of the types of things they could create themselves.

• To promote designs of particular interest for sale.

• To feature some blank (undecorated) garments in the same area on the website.

• To buy as is from the store.

Undecorated store products

Store owners can also choose to include some blank products without decorations to be able to present them in the same way as pre-decorated products and categories to better emphasize these choices.

Custom products

Customers viewing a retail store can see and choose both stock designs and store designs. Using the built-in online designer, they can add selected designs to products of their choosing.

On the store website, decorated products are shown prominently in the ‘Products’ (‘Shop’) section and page.

About The Print Bar's designs Folder

Designs in The Print Bar are classified into three classes – ‘stock designs’, ‘store designs’, and ‘my designs’.  They can be uploaded to the system through the store and by the customer. Only The Print Bar can download and process designs into finished items.

Stock designs

Store owners have the option of adding selected stock designs to their store.

Note: Store owners can also choose to reveal the whole collection or not, as preferred.

Store designs

Store owners can also upload their own ‘store designs’ one-by-one (not in bulk). A store design can only be designated a single category. They can have text descriptions added.

Store design categories

Store owners can organize designs into custom store design categories that best represent that store’s target market.

My designs

Customers can also upload custom designs to the store for use as decorations. These are available only to that person (by login) and are grouped as ‘My Designs’.

Stock designs

Stock designs are standard designs that the fulfillment center pre-loads to make available to member stores. They can be delivered in various formats depending on which decoration processes the fulfillment center supports.

About store designs

Store owners have the option of adding selected stock designs to their store or they can reveal the whole collection.
Store owners can organize designs into custom store design categories that best represent that store’s target market.
They can upload store designs one-by-one but not in bulk. Any one store design can only be designated a single
category. They can have text descriptions added. There are setup options to control how designs and design
categories are presented. Customers viewing a retail store can see and choose both stock designs and store designs.
Using the built-in online designer, they can add selected designs to products of their choosing.

About customer designs

Customers can also upload custom designs to the store to use as decorations. These are available only to that person
(by login) and are grouped under ‘My Designs’. The Print Bar keeps track of which ones can be used with which
decoration processes. When a customer asks to see designs for printing, he sees only ones suitable for that purpose,
not those which are only applicable to embroidery or other decoration types.

Note: In order to use a design, the customer must have full rights it. When uploading, customers are prompted to
confirm the following terms:

• I hold commercial rights to reproduce the design.
• If for any reason the legal owner of this design contacts fulfilment house they will be directed to me.
• I understand illegal use of third party copyright content is a serious offence and can lead to penalties.

Supported design formats

Design formats which can be uploaded to DecoNetwork are:

EPS - Vector

When uploaded, design is automatically rasterized to PNG bitmap format at ~300 dpi.
We recommend making vector design as large as will fit in largest decoration location
– e.g. ~12x18 inches. RGB color model recommended. Do not use anti-aliasing.

PNG - Bitmap

Recommended bitmap format for graphics and logos which you allow the customer
to re-color. Create artwork at the largest size likely to be printed at in high resolution
– e.g. 300 dpi. CMYK color model recommended. Do not use anti-aliasing. Can use 24
bit color or 8 bit color with optimized palette (smaller file).

JPG - Bitmap

Good for photographic images but do not allow re-coloring. Not recommended for
graphics and logos which you allow the customer to re-color (too many color shades).

GIF - Bitmap

Good 8 bit format for graphics and logos with small number of color shades for re-
coloring. PNG is generally recommended instead.

Production files with orders

When a customer places an order in your store for a decorated product, the designs and texts he uses are
combined and resized into a single production-ready print file in the selected file format – PNG or PDF – and in the
‘perfect’ resolution (dpi) designated in the decoration location details in the product details – 200 dpi by default for
apparel products. The original artwork files used can also be downloaded for reference if desired.
